Many people panic at the idea of their child flying alone. It is a unique experience that we strive to provide at Neos. We understand the importance of making your child feel welcome and supported, ensuring their journey is as peaceful as if they were with their parents. The information below contains all the details you need to request the service.
The "Unaccompanied Minor (UMNR)" service is required for any passengers aged 4–13 (up to their 14th birthday) travelling domestically or internationally, alone or with an accompanying minor or accompanied by an adult on a different flight class mandatory. The "Voluntary unaccompanied minor" service can be requested for minor passengers aged 14 and over (therefore, from the age of 14 until the age of 18) travelling alone. Canadian law requires that unaccompanied minors under the age of five are not accepted. It means that no children under the age of five are transported as an unaccompanied minor on any routes with a touchpoint in Canada. This age restriction only applies to/from Canadian points. HOW DO I REQUEST THE UNACCOMPANIED MINOR SERVICE?At the time of booking, please advise the airline of your requirement for the unaccompanied minor service for children under 14 years of age. You must provide the full names, address and contact number of the accompanying adult at the departure airport and the adult responsible for collection at the arrival airport. The cost of the service is €100 each way. WHAT HAPPENS AT THE AIRPORT? Arrive at the airport and go to our check-in desks at least 2 hours before the scheduled departure time of your child’s flight. Ground staff will greet your child at check-in, an airport representative will accompany them until boarding, and the cabin manager will take care of them throughout the entire flight. The adult accompanying the child to the departure airport must wait at the airport until 30 minutes after the plane takes off so that, if the flight is cancelled, the child can be taken back home. Upon arriving at the destination airport, airport staff will look after your child and take them to the arrival area to meet you or their delegated relatives. The UMNR service always needs to be confirmed by the airline before departure.
The parents of an unaccompanied minor must check that all paperwork and required documents for the child's journey from the country of origin to the country of destination are complete and up to date. Please note that whenever an Italian national under the age of 14 travels outside of Italy without a parent or legal guardian, they are required to have a Declaration of Accompaniment issued by the Police Headquarters. This declaration should include the name of the person or entity (such as the airline) responsible for the minor and must be signed by the individual who has authority over the minor. Additionally, it should be endorsed by the passport issuing authority in the applicant's place of residence. The aforementioned regulations apply to both Italian minors and to all minors holding dual passports (Italian and foreign) since Italian laws protecting minors are applicable in all cases. Your child will be denied boarding if the aforementioned declaration has not been obtained. The airline may not be held liable if your child is denied boarding because of unsuitable and/or incomplete documentation. All the information regarding the requirements for the expatriation of minors can be found on the State Police website under the section entitled "Expatriation of Minors".
