Flights to Almaty land at the Almaty International Airport, which is located a short distance from the city itself. There are several ways to get there. One of the cheapest and most convenient is by taxi, which is also one of the most popular means of transport in the area. Another way to get from the airport to Almaty is by bus. There is a bus line that runs every ten minutes and can take you to the Aerovokzal district. Once in the city there are several bus routes, but also a metro network that connects the downtown areas to the more peripheral ones and some parks.
During your trip to Almaty, you will be able to explore its most imposing buildings and characteristic markets for an overview of the country's most diverse sides. The colourful bazaars are perfect for admiring local handicrafts at first hand or sampling some of the local specialities. In addition to spices and candied fruit, apples are a local delicacy that should not be missed.
