The Boeing 787 Dreamliner is a wide-body, turbofan twin-engine airplane used for medium and long-haul flights, developed by the American company Boeing. The aircraft was initially named the 7E7, before it was renamed as the 787 in January 2005. The first Boeing 787 Dreamliner was presented during a roll-out ceremony on 8 July 2007 (which is written as 7/8/7 in America) at the Boeing factory in Everett, Washington. The development and production of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner entailed large-scale collaborations with numerous suppliers around the world. The final assembly takes place at the Boeing Factory in Everett as well as that of North Charleston, South Carolina. Originally scheduled to be commissioned in May 2008, the project had a few delays due to the revolutionary choice to extensively use composite structures. The inaugural flight took place on 15 December 2009, and the flight tests were completed in mid-2011. The certificate of approval by the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) was received in August 2011 and the first Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner was delivered in September 2011. It began commercial service on 26 October 2011 with the launch airline All Nippon Airways. The Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner is 6.31 metres longer; this is the variant chosen by Neos Air for its passengers, which flew for the first time in September 2013.
